Healthcare
ConvenientMD is a B-corporation providing urgent care and primary care services across New England, with nearly 1,400 employees ranging from clinical staff to corporate team members. As a certified B-corp, the company balances purpose with profit, prioritizing the well-being of both their team and their communities.
The Opportunity
ConvenientMD has a strong culture of supporting their team through comprehensive benefits and CMD CARES initiatives, including their Grant Circle employee relief fund. Like many organizations, they are seeing increased usage of the fund as employees faced mounting financial challenges and knew their traditional fundraising approach wasn’t sustainable.
At the same time, their IT department faced a common corporate challenge: what to do with dozens of laptops being cycled out of use. Some devices were still in excellent condition — even brand new in the box — but would need to be recycled at a cost to the company.
The opportunity was clear: could they transform a disposal problem into a fundraising solution?
“This case was a bit of a no brainer and I wish we had thought of it sooner. It was really just leveraging what we already had. We want to make it meaningful for Grant Circle, but also very attainable for our team members. So we thought $100. Within 24 hours the computers were gone.”

The Solution
PCs for Purpose was born from a simple insight: leverage what you already have.
Working with their IT department, ConvenientMD offered gently-used and new laptops that were destined for recycling to employees for just $100, with all proceeds going directly to their Grant Circle fund. The pricing was intentional. It was meaningful enough to make an impact on the fund and accessible enough for employees across all income levels.
The program design prioritized:
- Accessibility: $100 price point made technology affordable for employees
- Simplicity: Legal and accounting reviewed language, but deployment was straightforward
- Sustainability: Kept functional devices out of landfills (aligning with B-corp values)
- Win-win-win: Employees got needed devices, Grant Circle was funded, company saved on recycling costs
The response was immediate: 30 laptops sold out in 24 hours.
The Impact
immediate financial support
Raised $3,700+, enough to fund multiple grants for employees in crisis.
SUSTAINABLE FUNDRAISING MODEL
Rotating out devices on a regular basis means ongoing fundraising opportunities throughout the year (desktop computers, televisions, potentially even branded scrubs).
